Rescue Helicopter ADS-B Surveillance in the Austrian Alps

Posted on

For the benefit of surveillance of alpine helicopter rescue operations Planevision Systems has completed the delivery of a set of ADS-B receivers to the State of Vorarlberg emergency service authority. The 19″ rack insert receivers were placed on mountain tops in the Vorarlberg area, at altitudes above 2.000 meters.
ADS-B data as they are received are transmitted to the state emergency control center via WAN microlinks and subsequently processed in the authority’s GIS. The PlaneTRack fully decoded output with its RESTFUL API made this integration very easy. During a test period of 12 months the installation proved to be helpful especially in the winter months, when rescue flights in the skiing resorts are a continous task.
